The event will be held on August 31, 2007 at the Kayak Centre, Williams’ Bay Chaguaramas from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Attractions on the day will include entertainment by Excellent Stores Silver Stars, and for the kids Guardian General’s Road Safe Mascot ‘GG’ and the Road Safe life size game.
There will be food and drinks on sale and admission is FREE…so bring the family and friends!!!

Huh? What is Dragon Boat?

OK, so i know some people might be scratching their heads and wondering errrrr what is Dragon Boat Racing? Then Clearly you have been out of the loop for the last year in T&T :). The Sport of Dragon Boat Racing was introduced to T&T in 2006 as part of the 200 years celebration of Chinese Arrival to T&T.

Dragon boat racing is one of the world’s oldest water sports, originating in China over 2000 years ago. Today, it is a spectacular internationally recognized sport with participants in the Far East, Australia, Europe and North America.

Dragon boats are more than 10 metres (41 feet) in length, and have ornately carved and painted dragon heads and tails. Each carries a helmsman, a drummer whose beat provides the rhythm and a crew of 20 paddlers. The races take place on flat water, usually over a distance of 500 metres, at a sprint. The coordination of 20 paddlers makes it an ideal activity for team building.

Last July six companies Century Eslon Ltd., Digicel T&T Ltd., Excellent Stores Ltd., Guardian Holdings Ltd., The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. and Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Ltd each sponsored a boat, which formed part of the Chinese Arrival Celebration and kicked off a series of Dragon Boat Racing Activities.

GHL Charity Dragon Boat Event

GHL sponsors Charity Independence Day Dragon Boat Regatta

Guardian Holdings Limited has partnered with the Trinidad & Tobago Dragon Boat Federation to host an Independence Day Dragon Boat Regatta in aid of the CREDO House Foundation.

Earlier this year a fire razed the Credo Foundation’s home for teenage boys in Port of Spain and GHL is playing a small part in helping to make the lives of these street children more comfortable and secure. Teams are invited to register and as part of the registration, teams will pledge a minimum of Fifteen Hundred dollars to the cause.
